SETUP GUIDE for
Installing XR32 onto Slackware 11.0 Linux:
Under Construction by
VK2DOT.
AIM:
To install the Slackware 11.0 Linux
operating system onto a small laptop. Install AGWINE system software
onto the machine, then run XR32 XRouter software as
an amateur radio packet system; Then if that all works – install LinFbb BBS.
Download Slackware 11.0 CDROM’s Disk 1 & Disk 2 or the Slackware 11.0 Install DVD, from the Slackware
Depository at http://slackware.cs.utah.edu/pub/slackware/slackware-11.0-iso/ at Utah University.
Slackware 11
Slackware 11.0 is a complete distribution of the Linux operating system.
This version contains the 2.4.33.3 Linux kernel, plus recent versions of these (and many more) software packages:
- C compiler gcc-3.4.6
- Binutils 2.15.92.0.2
- GNU C Library glibc-2.3.6
- X Window System X11R6.9.0 (aka 7.0.0) from X.Org.
- KDE 3.5.4
- Xfce 4.2.3.2
For installation instructions, see the file 'Slackware-HOWTO'.
Slackware 11.0 has been tailored for amateur radio packet users. Disk 3 contains all the AX25 software, Node and LinFbb. If you intend to use your PC or Laptop for amateur Radio Use only, I would recommend this flavour of Linux. If you intend to run LinFbb on your system, then download CDROM disk 3, or it is on your DVD that you have downloaded.
Download AGWINE
from http://www.vislab.uq.edu.au/research/accessgrid/software/xap400/agwine-slackware11.html at the
University of Queensland.
agwine-0.9.45
Wine is a program which allows running Microsoft Windows programs (including
DOS, Windows 3.x and Win32 executables) on Unix. It consists of a program loader which loads
and executes a Microsoft Windows binary, and a library (called Winelib) that implements Windows API calls using their Unix or X11 equivalents.
The library may also be used for porting Win32 code into native Unix executables.
This package, agwine, is patched
for correct serial port communication with the ClearOne
XAP400 hardware echo canceller.
Test Machine:
Compaq Amada E500 laptop – 500Mhz, 256Mb memory & 4Gb mass storage. WiFi Ethernet
dongle.
